Legislation

This section is under construction and will in due course contain information about key legislation with which the Association must conform, or has particular involvement, given the nature of it's business.

It will describe the basic outline of the law in respect of each, and the Association's approach to it through relevant policies and procedures.

As legislation and associated regulation develops, the section will be expanded accordingly.

Housing and Regeneration Act 2008

It is this that sees the replacement of the Housing Corporation with two separate bodies.

The investment (development funding) arm of the Corporation has now been taken over by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA)

The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) is now responsible for regulating housing associations, and from 2010 its responsibilities will extend to local authorities.

The expression Registered Social Landlords ("RSLs" - from the 1996 Housing Act) has also been replaced. The new Act refers to housing associations as Registered Providers.

Decent Homes Standard

By 2010, all Housing Associations will be required to conform with the Government's documented criteria regarding in particular the warmth and comfort of the homes they provide.
